John 21: 24 – 25
24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.
25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
A while ago there was one of those photos doing the rounds on FaceBook. It was a Bible wrapped in cellophane with a sticker on it proclaiming “Signed by the Author”.
There was no indication of whether the signature added or detracted from its value!
As you read through the Bible though there are many occasions where the writer says something along the lines of “This is a true saying”, “This you can depend on”, or “This is something you can trust”. John, right at the end of his account of the Gospel, gives a virtual signature as he signs off with these last two verses to assure us and all his readers of the authenticity of what he wrote.
He was a Disciple, he was an eye witness and this is his own account. There is no doubt his testimony is true, so believe.
Lord God, our loving Father in Heaven, we thank you that in times of trial we may turn to the book of scripture where we may find true words to give us encouragement, reassurance, inspiration and courage. May take all of this from your word to make sense of our world and lives.
In your Mercy hear our prayer,
